diy donut balloons

Oh donuts! They make me so happy…these donut balloons make me pretty happy too! They are so easy to make – with just a little paint and some of your own hot air! Here’s how I did it:

  • Acrylic paint 3 or 4 colors
  • Small to medium size artist paint brushes
  • Gold metallic tape (optional)

Fancy Supplies

  • Pack of 5 donut balloons

First step, blow up the balloons – either all at once or as you paint them. I’m not going to lie, they are a little tricky to blow up. At first it will seem like only one half of the balloon will inflate, but just keep blowing and eventually the whole thing fills up.

After you’ve filled the balloons you can start to paint! I used a Neon Coral and Robins Egg Blue for the frosting on my balloons (Love the color of these balloons? You can find the paint at the store with the big red bulls eye). Using a medium sized artists paint brush paint a layer all around the front of the balloon leaving some white space in the middle and along the outer edges. Let dry for 15 to 20 minutes.

You’ll want to paint it on a little smoother than this…

Now that your balloons are dry you can paint a second coat of paint. Let dry for at least 20 to 30 minutes.

Sprinkle time! In addition to the Neon Coral and Robins Egg Blue, I used Neon Pink and White paint for the sprinkles. Using a small brush pick up a little glob of paint and paint a short line onto the balloon wherever you like, however you like. I also used gold metallic tape – I cut little pieces of that and stuck it to the balloons.

And there you have it! Your very own custom donut balloons.

This was such a fun project – even my kiddos got into it!

Luckily the paint washes off the balloons easily!
